Eco-friendly, low carbon construction materials
Significant CO2 emissions associated with the production of Portland cement have been posing anthropogenic crisis and hence necessitated the development of alternative cementitious materials having a low CO2 footprint. The alternative cementitious materials, which can satisfy both the environmental issue and engineering requirements, have therefore been attracting attention. In addition, carbonation of cementitious materials has a potential of storing a considerable amount of CO2 into the matrix.
In this regard, understanding the binder chemistry of alternative cementitious materials and their carbonation behavior is of a paramount issue in order to accomplish a sustainable construction industry. Furthermore, the development of porous absorbents synthesized by utilizing alternative cementitious materials for water purification has been recently gaining attention, becoming a topic of interest.
